Wire & Cable from the Future

Now that the look back on 2011 is behind us and 2012 is here, we look forward to see what will come.  One of the coolest new products from the wire and cable industry is stretchable wire.  Its called “Roboden” and was designed with humanoid robots in mind.  It stretches 1.5 times its regular length the same as human skin.  The most practical application that the consumer market will see this in is personal electronics.

The Japanese company, Asahi Kasei Fibers, has constructed the wire so that the the conductors are coiled inside the jacket which is made out of spandex.  In a demonstration, you can see the cable uses less space that a traditional cable allowing for less clutter behind your computer.  Not exactly something The Mueller Group expects to launch as our product of 2012, but maybe a glimpse into flexible and robotic cables of the years to come.
